Simone Rueß records in her artistic research, how space is created and perceived through movement, narratives and memories. Her multi-media and participatory projects reflect on urban and social change, migration and displacement, and perspectives through intersectionalities of ability and age.
Simone Rueß studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart (2002–2008) and was a DAAD postgraduate at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw (2008–09), followed by a three-year research stay in the Polish capital, funded by the graduate scholarship of the state of Baden-Württemberg (2009–2011) and the Kunstfonds Bonn (2012). Furthermore she was a fellow i.a. at BASE Milano (2018), Akademie Schloss Solitude (2016/17) and Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris (2013). Her artistic research on urban structures, home-making and biographical narratives has been presented in various group and solo exhibitions, including Trafostacja Szczecin, Le Guern Gallery in Warsaw, Galerie Interface in Dijon, Kunstmuseum Ravensburg, Kunsthalle Tübingen, and La Triennale di Milano in Italy.
Since 2024 she has been an associate member of the Collaborative Research Centre "Re-Figuration of Spaces" (CRC 1265) at the Technical University Berlin. Since 2018 Rueß has been teaching in the field of art and design e.g. at the Goethe-University Frankfurt a. M., and the University of Wuppertal. She holds workshops and lectures, e.g. recently at the Art Academy in Katowice or the RheinMain University of Applied Sciences, Wiesbaden (2024). Her courses focus on (inter)subjective perceptions of daily life in analogue and digital space.
